Hammerstone Whiskey Disks

July 26, 2011

New at the Tamworth Lyceum, whiskey disks!

Made right in Chocorua, NH, neighboring town of Tamworth, these whiskey disks are the definition of local. Hammerstone is a multi-generational business made up of a father son team who enjoy both stonemasonry and good scotch!

Why buy a whiskey disk? Any liquor that is aged in a cask has a very distinct, unique flavor. Why ruin that by watering it down with more ice cubes? Adding too much ice to a drink, you can effectively destroy the actual flavor of the drink. Put one of these whiskey disks in a the freezer for a couple of hours and they will provide the perfect chill without the need for additional water. Ideal for those who take their whiskey “neat”.

Hammerstone’s whiskey disks are made of soapstone found in quarries in Quebec. The reasoning behind the soapstone; it is extremely dense and has no odor and no flavor, is non-porous, therefore non-absorbent. What does all of this mean? It will not affect the liquor you are drinking. Also, soapstone is free of chemicals and safe for drinkers.

So, why disks and not cubes? The cylindrical nature not only helps give them a unique edge, but the shape also lends itself to “swirling” and “nosing”.

Pick up a box of Hammerstone Whiskey Disks and enjoy them with your next glass of Root or Snap!
